1 Fe b 20 05 Bulk Compton Emission in the GRB Internal Shock Model
نویسنده
چکیده
We investigate the role of the bulk Compton-scattering process in the internal shock model. We numerically show that the radiation field created by internal shocks does not affect the efficiency of the energy conversion in the shocks even if fireball outflows have highly nonuniform velocity distributions. However, the bulk Compton-scattering produces an additional high energy component especially when variability in the outflows arises because of a modulation of the mass injected into a constant energy flow. We show that an isotropic energy of 10 ergs could be radiated in the range of 100MeV-GeV through the scattering process, provided that the shell’s Lorentz factor varies between 10 and 10. متن کاملPrompt Gev Emission from Residual Collisions in Gamma-ray Burst Outflows: Evidence from Fermi Observations of Grb 080916c
The γ-rays from γ-ray bursts (GRBs) are believed to be produced by internal shocks driven by small timescale, ∼ 1 ms, variation in the GRB outflows, and a pair-production spectral cutoff is generally expected around the GeV range. However, the observed optical flashes accompanying GRBs suggest that the delayed residual collisions due to large timescale variation continue to accelerate electrons...
متن کاملGRB early optical flash from internal shock : application to GRB 990123 , GRB 041219 a and GRB 060111 b
With the successful launch of the Swift Gamma-Ray Burst Explorer, people expected the prompt optical flash like GRB990123 would be easily detected. However the fact that early optical flash have not been detected for a number of GRBs indicates the reverse shock must be suppressed. Here we explore the possibility that the optical flash may arise from the internal shock. We find that, under certa...
متن کاملGrb 080916c: on the Radiation Origin of the Prompt Emission from Kev/mev to Gev
Fermi observations of high-energy gamma-ray emission from GRB 080916C shows that its spectrum is consistent with the Band function from MeV to tens of GeV. Assuming one single emission mechanism dominates in the whole energy range, we show that this spectrum is consistent with synchrotron origin by shockaccelerated electrons. The simple electron inverse-Compton model and the hadronic model are ...
متن کاملGeV emission from short gamma-ray bursts: the case of GRB 081024B
Aims. We investigate whether the high energy tail detected by the Fermi/LAT for the short GRB 081024B can be caused by synchrotron and self-Compton emission in the context of either the internal or external shock models. Methods. For the internal shock scenario, we explore the possibility of generating the high energy photons directly by means of the synchrotron process, or inverse Compton emis...
